Our office is conveniently located downtown in the historic Alamo Building, just 100 meters north of the county courthouse (see map for location). Parking is available at meters on the street, or in the city parking lot 1/2 block east of our building, at the intersection of Nevada and Cucharras. (We park in the same lot - it's great to work in a beautiful old building, but since it was constructed about the time cars were being introduced to society, there is no underground parking lot).
Out of State Clients
As long as you have a case pending in El Paso, Teller, Douglas or Pueblo Counties, we can represent you even if you don't live in Colorado. For your initial consultation, simply send us your initial intake forms and any other documents relevant to your case, by fax (please no more than 20 pages), regular mail, or you can scan and e-mail the PDF documents. We'll then review the documents before our consultation, which we can also do telephonically.
We have completed family law cases for dozens of out-of-state clients we've never met in person, from all over the U.S., as well as Germany, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, and others. Thanks to modern technology, such as faxes, telephones, and, especially, e-mail, and the ability to participate telephonically in most Colorado family court proceedings, we can finalize many family law cases without an out-of-state client having to show up in person.
Sometimes you will need to appear in person for your case, such as in criminal cases, or in family cases involving contested parenting issues. And, there may be other situations where a judge requires personal appearance, or where a closely-fought issue means it is better for the judge to be able to look you in the eye, rather than being just a voice on the telephone. As your attorneys, we'll let you know if I think your personal presence would help your case.
What to Bring
Plan to arrive at least five minutes early to allow time to fill out the intake form. And please do not bring children - you probably do not want to discuss your case in front of them, and we do not have day care facilities in our office.
Bring copies of all pertinent documents. If a criminal case, it means your charges, and any discovery you've received. If a family law case and you've been served with papers, bring everything. If you have a post-decree case, bring a copy of your decree itself, all orders currently in effect, and any motion which has been filed.
If you already have a consultation scheduled, you can click to download our Family Law Intake Form (PDF | MS Word), or, if you are charged with an offense, our Criminal Defense Intake Form (PDF | MS Word). Fill out both pages (by hand usually works better than trying to type in the form), then bring them to our office, or, if you'll be participating telephonically, send them to us with the other applicable documents.
